Chick-Fil-A Controversy

So this isn’t new news to me, but perhaps it is to some of you still out there. It seems Chick-Fil-A has gotten themselves into quite a pickle for stating their opinion on marriage. But I have just now gotten the notion to write about it.

President of Chick-Fil-A Dan Cathy was asked about his stance on gay marriage as opposed to the traditional family unit on Baptist Press, and is now being highly criticized for his response:

“We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

My response? Uhhh, ok. And this is a surprise because…..??? I am quite confused by people’s reaction to the President of Chick-Fil-A regarding marriage. Everyone knows this restaurant is always closed on Sundays and always plays Christian music in the lobby. It is certainly no surprise that their opinion is Bible based. At least; not to me. But let me just say; he did not say they are prejudiced against/look down upon/judge those of same sex relationships. He was asked what his opinion was of same sex marriage opposed to a traditional family unit and he gave his opinion. Did anyone really expect a different answer? Really?!

I guess since people who are for same sex relationships MUST be against those of traditional relationships I should therefore automatically assume those people judge and hate me since I am in a traditional relationship…. Now do you see how silly that sounds?!?!?!

I don’t get it, people. You say that he is the one who is being hateful, but I’ve heard much more hateful/judgmental words come out of those who are now supposedly boycotting Chick-Fil-A. Shame on people for asking a question, getting the answer they knew they would get, and then acting like they are shocked and disgusted.

Personally, I have never been much of a fan of their chicken, but I do quite enjoy their waffle fries. I live a couple of hours away from a Chick-Fil-A, but I might have to make it a point to visit one for some fries next time I’m out  😛

  1. I couldn’t have put it better myself. The first logical response to this entire debacle that I have heard/read. Thank you.
